I decided to try the Grumperina method of picking up stitches and - my gusset is a thing of beauty. It's even, there are no holes, and I am growing in sock-knitting confidence with every stitch. I was, indeed, born to knit socks. I'll post pictures in a day or two, when I'm closer to the toe.
And ... I finished Harry tonight. (Hornbill agreed to let me read it first.) So many questions answered...
knitting. letters. virginia woolf. fountain pens. bunnies. observations. spinning. music. libraries. journals. politics.

Tour de France update, and no HP... yet...
So what does a depressed HP fan do when her book hasn't arrived? She shops at KnitPicks and picks up two sale books - Charmed Knits (of course) and Wrapped in Comfort. She also hangs out at Ravelry and plays with fellow Summer Camp Swap pals. Right now, the group is telling a ghost story, and singing around the campfire.
Tour de France update: She's about to turn the heel. (No, actually, I'm about to turn the heel. Must... not ... dissociate...)

Hedwig and I await (along with how many billion others??)
I usually post Booking Through Thursday responses at Tea Reads, but this one has to be here, too...
Okay, love him or loathe him, you’d have to live under a rock not to know that J.K. Rowling’s final Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, comes out on Saturday… Are you going to read it?
- If so, right away? Or just, you know, eventually, when you get around to it? Are you attending any of the midnight parties? This Ravenclaw will be reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows the moment it arrives from Amazon.uk. If I don't get it by Saturday, I'll have to hide in my closet to keep from being spoiled.
- If you’re not going to read it, why not?
- And, for the record… what do you think? Will Harry survive the series? What are you most looking forward to? I am in the "Snape is a good guy" queue because I trust Dumbledore completely. I think he took Harry on the (purposely) unsuccessful quest for the Horcrux as a rite of passage, to toughen him and to ensure that he could do anything necessary to vanquish (hiss) Voldemort. It was Harry's Bardo, facing what he feared, and he got through it.

Can the Sorting Hat make a mistake?
Since so many friends questioned what the Sorting Hat said, I took the test again. This time --

I'm
a Ravenclaw!
Then I took another test, and another - and the results seesawed between the two.
The tiebreaker: when I took the character compatibility test, I was Luna Lovegood:
You scored as Luna Lovegood. You're an extreme introvert and because of this, are also a deep thinker. You ponder things others would never dream of pondering and stand with your beliefs without backing down. You find it more valuable to daydream than to socialize, because there's so much more going on in your head than others'. Most people don't understand it, but you seem to prefer it that way.
So there it is.
I am Ravenclaw. My Golden Compass daemon is a raven. I am compatible with Luna Lovegood. I worship the moon.
(And I like the Ravenclaw colors better.)
(Am I taking this WAY too seriously? And isn't that a Lovegoodian trait?)

Who knew?
As for Gryffindor...I just wanted to be sure the Sorting Hat hadn't made a mistake the first time -
I'm
a Gryffindor!

Harry Potter read-along
Seems as if I've been saying "I want to read the whole series" forever.

--and now I shall - one book per week, beginning 9 June. I bought the English editions for my birthday last year (cars have "bonnets" instead of hoods), and I have ordered book 7 from Amazon.uk.
Total immersion - excellent!
(Shall I knit something Gryffindor? socks? a bonnet? maybe-)
