Which Jane Austen character am I?
So, I guess I'm the Jane Austen character who wouldn't have liked the new Persuasion on PBS last night... I didn't. I'm not alone, judging from some of the discussion boards. Had I not already loved the novel, I don't think I would have understood the story at all, and what was with that running around the streets of Bath ... and that very public kiss? No no no no no!
Check out Remotely Connected for the PBS commentary by Victoire Gerkins Sanborn (Jane Austen's World).

I liked how the film *looked* but it was a bit willy-nilly in the execution. Not liking the "sexing up" of J.A. novels for American audiences.
I recorded it so I can watch it later- I like the 1995 version
I've taken the character quiz before, and seem to be Marianne. Whose only redemption is that she marries Alan Rickman in the film. *sigh*
I think it was a real ship-wreck. I'm used to many of my beloved books being snipped, tucked, botoxed, lifted, and modernized by now but these productions are NOT Jane Austen by any means.
I recorded it, and haven't watched yet. But I am a big fan of the 1995 version, so from what I've read, this one will underwhelm me. However, I'll still give it a try ...
I am also Elinor Dashwood, according to the quiz and I have to say that both her and I are quite disappointed with the changes that took place in the first half of Persuasion the other night.
We were also disappointed with the changes in the new PBS version of Bronte's Jane Eyre.
I hadn't read the book yet but even I was pretty sure they'd butchered the novel. Who, other than maybe Marianne would chase down a man in the street?
I missed all but maybe the last 45 minutes, but really...A sprint through the streets? And that kiss was crazy - WHAT?? I find it so funny that we were all, in our various homes around the world, thinking The Exact Same Thing At The Same Time:).
Your Snapdragon Buddy!
Oh, I wish I hadn't missed it, even if it was dreadful! But run through the streets ending in a public smooch? Sounds a bit too Hollywood and not enough Jane, to me. Ah well. Even screwed up Austen is better than no Austen at all, and I hope I'll get another chance to view it.
I didn't like it myself and thought maybe it could have been better. I've not done this quiz, so I'll give it a go. Btw ~ I tagged you to play along w/me. Have a great day!
