These foolish things, an olio

1. I joined Roxanne's Art Sock Club, even though I have yet to finish a pair of socks, because how could I not want sock yarn painted to match great works of art? I hope she does this one...

2. A cognitive therapist who treated me for 7 years did his darnedest to get me to agree with his basic premise: thoughts precede emotions. Change your thoughts, change your emotional response. I didn't buy it then, and I don't buy it now. However, I shall give it a try. Herein, some thoughts I will do my darnedest to change.
a. Niacin flushes do not feel like being eaten by fire ants. They feel like ripples in a hot tub.
b. A migraine aura is not visual psychosis. It is my own personal light show.
c. Smelling sandalwood in the absence of sandalwood is not olfactory psychosis. It is a visit from Kuan Yin.
d. Librarians who want their library catalog to look 'n' feel like Amazon are not self-destructive. Instead, they are... No, wait. Librarians who want their library catalogs to look 'n' feel like MySpace are not delusional. They are... No, wait. Library directors who do not read anything except management books with titles like Dump Out Your Marbles or Shoot for the Moon do not deserve to be eaten by fire ants. Instead, they...

Help me out here.

Oh no! A migraine? I don't think any thoughts of mine are going to help you. I'm trying to convince myself that plain rice, bananas, applesauce, tea and toast is a gourmet diet.

I joined the club too. :-)

I love d. I'm still mourning the old card catalogs. The serendipity factor is just GONE with the computer ones. Easier in some ways, yes, but so, so lacking in others...

I am completely with Amy on d. I loved card catalogs and the computer is a poor, poor substitute (I do understand the reasoning).

Better Amazon's design than even what my lovely library has. I can't even misspell Sharyn and find the author. A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy I only managed to find by sheer stint of will.

i love librarian jokes.

And I don't think you need to change your thoughts. I think you sound spot on. :-)

Niacin flushes do to feel like you are being eaten by fire ants!

All those thoughts to change are great!
but I also agree that my space anything needs to be eaten by fire ants.

P.s and I also agree you don't need to change anything and that cognative shrink needed some fire ants too.

Gosh I got nothin for you on that last one.

I like that sandalwood thing. I think that would make me happy. :)

P.s. I love the painting you chose and the colors would really make beautiful socks!

A lovely painting. I can envision a pair of stockings knit to echo the rippling of her hair.... a dark soft yarn, something to slide your feet into against a cold morning floor.

CBT is good stuff -- sounds like the T you were working with fell into the "one gun for every prey" fallacy, though. I hate how hard it is to find mental professionals who understand a *range* of disciplines - everyone seems to know one thing, and think their one thing can handle every quirk a mind has. Silly.

Sandalwood sounds nice. For me it's roses, and it distresses me. The cognitive dissonance of having one sense think you are in a rose garden on a humid June evening just before dusk, when all the others think it is early February and freezing is a bit much for me to cope with, I'm afraid.

Ugh! Fire ants.

Our minds are much more complex (and hidden, even from ourselves) than many people want to admit.

Ahh, the light shows my brain puts on for me. I agree with you. Thoughts are thoughts and emotions are emotions and sometimes they are not even in the same dimension. Try talking yourself out of an anxiety attack when in a theater with only a few occupants when your brain says "you're going to die because those people are breathing all your air".

I love the painting you chose, too, and I would love to see those colors (altho' The Meezer colorway isn't far off!). Niacin flushes are a PITA. I'm sorry about the migraine...and I miss the old card catalogs, too.
(I want to "luck into" one at a flea market so I can have it in my own home...)
(((hugs)))

My little local still has a card catalog - I want one at home, too! So, by that reckoning, my seizure auras and seizures are my own personal, internal shock therapy treatments ;).

I'm not sure what a niacin flush is but it sounds like something i don't want to get near. If I want fire ants I'll move back to Texas. I love the socks idea. If I keep reading these sites I'm goning to have dig out my knitting needles again. I'm still working on ripples.

Oh, I can't spell worth a hoot today...captilize the I and spell the word going in the above post. I'm so used to the little red underline thingy popping up when I miss spell a word. I'll never get used to this. I've become so spoiled.

Ohhhhhhhhh, beautiful painting! Guess what? For the month of September I'm going to be asking for input on what artpiece to do for that month so keep this in mind and post away on the blog about it when I ask for suggestions. I think it's beautiful! :)
