Reading inspiration

Amanda has created a Reading Challenge. On June 1st, each member will post a list of books that she wants to read over the summer - any books, any genre, as long as we challenge ourselves to read them and post about them. I started my list immediately. Within five minutes, I realized that I'd have to do nothing else - neither work nor knit (nor sleep) - to read everything I'd listed already! By June 1st, I will have winnowed it to something manageable and meaningful, and I will post it here.

One book that definitely will be on the list: Lolita. It has been on my bookshelf since I read Reading Lolita in Teheran and saw the movie with Jeremy Irons.
According to Amy Tan in Salon:

I often reread passages of "Lolita" for its exquisite language. To me, "Lolita" has no message, no purpose, other than to exist as a marvel of literary creation. It has wit, intelligence and style. It pointedly makes no attempt to serve a higher moral purpose, and previous attempts by critics to find one have proven ludicrous. The annotated edition is accompanied by a brilliant afterword by Nabokov that is a lucid reminder of the pure joy of writing, its interplay with life. He also provides the truest definition of pornography I've ever found, likening it to mediocre literature and the "copulation of cliches."

(Just as an aside, wouldn't it be funny to see the projects if Lolita were chosen as a Knit the Classics selection?)
