NSA should stand for No Such Authority

Others are far more eloquent than I will ever be.

George Santayana: "Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

First They Came for the Jews

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.

My husband said this morning that he wasn't so troubled about what they did (compiling the data on phone numbers called), but that they did it with no debate or discussion or authority from Congress. I'm not sure I agree with him about the first part, but I certainly agree that this Administration has a scary view of the scope of executive privilege.

No kidding. Although I'm beginning to wonder if anyone has any concept of what privacy is, what with cell phones, MySpace and the net.

I spent a lot of time talking about privacy issues and this particular poem/saying. It's an interesting debate.

It certainly is a sad state of affairs.

On a lighter and happier note. Teabird, you have won a prize in the salt & pepper shaker contest on my blog. Check it out! (And send me your addy?) :)
