(sigh)

I am not stuck in England, I was not mugged... please disregard e-mails that were sent from my account... thanks!

Thanks for posting this! I was quite perplexed by that message: briefly concerned for you, but then it also sounded really spammy!

Thanks for such a quick post. Our Yahoo group was spammed, but I've put your membership on moderation until it is resolved. You can still post, but we will check it first.

Sorry you have to go through this. It makes one pause once again about using the nets.

Oh you poor thing...it immediately sounded hijacked to me then I thought to come to your block and you confirmed it. (glad you posted this) now I can chuckle a little, but URGGGGG....I know it's frustrating for you. I'm sick of the spam I'm getting when I post on my blog!

Darn, it sounded like such an interesting vacation. Glad to hear you're safe and sound! If not in England.

Luckily I've received this exact same scam before, so I knew it was not legit at first glance. If you want one of us can engage the scammers, figure out how they were going to transfer money, and then tell western union or whomever to BLOCK all transfers to the UK under your name. That's what I did the last time a friend got phished like this.

I have a theory about how they're doing this these days. I used to use one password for many random web sites. And my ebay account was hijacked a couple years ago. I think what happened was that some random, insecure web site where I had an account was hacked and then said hackers got my email address and password for there, then they tried the same combination across a variety of web sites. When they found it also worked at ebay, they tried to list fake goods under my name. I caught it in time. But now I use 1Password to create random passwords and remember them for all of my online accounts. :/

I figured that, and was trying to decide the best way to check for sure (since you've also disappeared from Facebook). Sorry about the hacking!

Melanie,
You had me worried for a few minutes before I came to my senses and realized that your email was a scam.
Please email me. Thanks.

Sorry you weren't in England but really glad you weren't mugged and stuck in England with no recourse and at the mercy of strangers.....

A lady in our knitting group had this same thing happened and it posted out to our entire guild. Luckily it was caught before someone fell for it. Shesh.
