3rd Annual Brigid in Cyberspace Poetry Reading

Welcome to the Third annual Brigid in Cyberspace Poetry Reading. Click the Triple Goddess for details...

On a night of snow by Elizabeth Coatsworth

Cat, if you go outdoors, you must walk in the snow.
You will come back with little white shoes on your feet,
little white shoes of snow that have heels of sleet.
Stay by the fire, my Cat. Lie still, do not go.
See how the flames are leaping and hissing low.
I will bring you a saucer of milk like a marguerite,
so white and so smooth, so spherical and so sweet --
stay with me, cat. Outdoors, the wild winds blow.

Outdoors the wild winds blow, Mistress, and dark is the night,
strange voices cry in the trees, intoning strange lore,
and more than cats move, lit by our eyes' green light,
on silent feet where the meadow grasses hang hoar --
Mistress, there are portents abroad of magic and might,
and things that are yet to be done. Open the door!

How cool! But how to choose one poem? What if it doesn't suit my mood on Saturday? Should I come up with a selection and then choose? Oh the stress! Everyday should have such stress, to choose between favorite poems.

Hmmm...I may have to start a new blog, and as I think I began my old one with a poem, I could start a new one with the same!!
:)

That is so delightful! Thank you! And I am so happy that you enjoyed "Vision Stalker." I see a similarity between it and the one you posted.

What a lovely choice of poem. What a well-wrought poem indeed. Of course I am a sucker for anything with cats, but this is great stuff.

Thank you!

I also have a poem posted.

Wish I could post a poem ~ it would be one by Mary Oliver, one of my favorite poets.

Alas, I am unable to post til Feb 5 ~ thanks for entering my contest and leaving a comment! I've enjoyed checking out new blogs through this contest.

Anne of Green Gables?! LOVE those books!! Love books period, but these were some of my favorites ever.

It makes me think of the witches in The Golden Compass, and it makes me want to cuddle my cats and make sure they don't go out! Lovely:)!

I so agree with the cat.
I saw a mention of fountain pens. Can I lurk here?

That's such a good poem! I love the imagery. And, of course, the cat.

Oh that is a wonderful poem!
after the snowy/icy weekend here I am going to read this poem to my cat who continues to insist that he wants to go outside.

I had some technical difficulties and wasn't able to get online to post my poem Saturday so I posted it anyway.

I am late to peruse the poems - might take me weeks or all year to read! Ta for this lovely poem - what a treat. Thank you for your comment on mine.
Blessed be
