even though I can't swim...

... I could not resist this book. I have lived all of my life on Long Island, but - I can not swim. (Literally, dozens of people have tried to teach me, including Red Cross instructors, camp counsellors, and my grandfather. I'm not meant to swim.) I can not tolerate more than a minute or two of sun. I can't even type the word "ferry" without becoming queasy. I can not do anything nautical except delight in sea air and lighthouses.

However - how could I resist a book with patterns for starfishes and sea horses, two of my favorite creatures? And kelp? And turtle tracks?

************

Political musings.... if Dennis Kucinich looked like Mitt Romney, would he still be considered "unelectable"? ... Is there any excuse whatsoever for Hillary's camp to have mentioned Obama and cocaine in the same sentence? (Variation: does anyone believe that this happened without authorization from the top of her campaign?) ... Valerie Plame, Abu Ghirab, weapons of mass destruction, destroying the evidence of Americans using waterboarding, all of the souls who have died in Iraq by American hands, Blackwater... what exactly would it TAKE to impeach this administration? ...

I just put a hold on it through the library. I can't tell from Amazon what all the patterns are, and I'm not a big one on scarves, but I have boys who LOVE sea stars and sea horses and all things ocean, so it's worth a look to see the charted patterns. Thanks!

(My 3 1/2 yo asked me today, "Do you think fish have hidden feet?" I love these questions. Such deep thoughts.)

Evidently, this administration has no shame. And shame on us because after all of the things you mentioned, we still haven't been able to impeach. They continue to lie and lie. And not sign global warming treaties. I guess while carbon caps are 'bad for business', melting ice caps that take out the coasts is ok? How stupid can one man be? Don't answer that. I know.

As a fellow LI'er .. I can "swim" but not at the level people would expect for someone who lived so close to a beach.

I can't swim either, but LOVE being near water. Go figure.

That looks like an interesting book, I've never seen it before. I'll have to try and track it down for a look.

I'm not even going to comment on the last part. Not enough time in the day.

I have to unlurk(?) just to say that the last part of your post was so well said. One other thing is the way they tried to pull the same thing to get us into war with Iran as they did with Iraq. It is said that we get the leaders we deserve - could this be true????

I can't swim either. Some of us just like to walk along the shoreline, that's all. :-D

Don't worry, you aren't the only one who can't swim. No-one in my family can, we all sink like stones.

Looks like a wonderful book.

Now I've got a question for you about a Christmas tradition. Stop by and leave a comment.

I think I was a selkie in my previous life. I moved inland to attend college, married a drylander and miss the ocean every day.

Politics! Ugh! Has anyone seen how religion as edged into the election? Did anyone see the Huckabee Christmas message?
