it's a good start

I've already started to obsess about the holidays. This year, I would like to urge all of my friends to join Kim of Handeye Crafts, who is collecting for The Heifer Project. She would like all of us to buy a knitting basket. I think we can do it!

My holiday present to my friends will be a share in that basket, and maybe a beehive or two...

Another great idea : my dear friend Maven has pointed me in the direction of Buy Handmade. You can take the pledge, and support our fellow crafters.

Of course, the offshoot would be to hand-make your own gifts. That goes without saying! My list of things I love to give and receive includes poems, stories, drawings, hazelnut biscotti... How about yours?

I agree! You can't go wrong with hazelnut biscotti! My fave things to give is whatever I'm working on at the moment--and at the moment it'll be maryjane slippers or bracelet purses!

I usually hand make Christmas gifts because I can't find anything I like personal enough for my friends and family. I grew up making gifts of somesort every year and had taught my children to do the same. Being poor has it's advantages. Now it's not Christmas withouth creating something personal.

We give a gift of goats each year through my sister.

ooh, hazelnut biscotti sounds really yummy. I love hazelnut.

I try to make gifts each year, some years more successfully than others. This year I'm planning two: beaded bracelets crocheted with wire, and blank handmade books, using my children's paintings as covers. We'll see how it goes. I had to get through Halloween (and making the costumes) before I can really focus on making gifts.

In the past I've given poems, photos (back in the darkroom days) that I took, developed, and printed myself, knitted items (of course!), earrings, and baked goods.

I wish those giving to me would do the same, or donate to charities in my name. I don't really need or want stuff just for the sake of stuff, you know?

Wow, that's a pricey knitting basket. I do like Heifer Intl though.

Handmade is always the best, knitted or crocheted is heavenly. Handmade ornaments and cards too. One year our fam got together to pay for a llama--probably the best gift we've ever given or rec'd. Thanks for the reminder!
Oh, I forgot, tea--from my own or a friend's herb garden.
