-- and this is a good morning, since I'm working late. I'm using the time well. Breakfast was plain oatmeal with Craisins and unsweetened applesauce, followed by tea (Stash "Awake," although it was a hard choice between that and Twinings Orange Pekoe, one of the most satisfying teas in a bag).
I'm doing a little (very little) bit of cooking (don't tell my husband). In a few minutes, I'll knit on my 2nd sock's leg and listen to an interview with Gore Vidal while I have my second cup of tea. When the postman comes, he'll take a little parcel for a friend whose last blog post might have been called one of those synchronicities if one believes in them. (Which she may.)
And finally, I'll get dressed for work. I'll be training a new library page this evening, a very nice young man, and I'll have the pleasure of working with the evening crew, a very, very nice group of women. They'll all be dressed better than I, since my idea of a work outfit is a dirge in dark colors with unpretty black shoes, and their idea is - pretty. So it goes. I'll braid my hair, listen to the audiobook of The Omnivore's Dilemma as I drive to work, eat some oat bread and vanilla yogurt for dinner, and hope (please please please) that nothing happens between 1:00 and 4:00 to disturb my relative peace.
The picture? "The Crow and the Pitcher" by Thomas Bewick, who will be the subject of a new biography in July. I had no idea who he was when I read the review. Now I'm in love.

I just finished the Ommnivore's Dilemma. It's a very thought provoking book. It leaves me very uncomfortable about my usual grocering purchase and routines, which, really, I like. I like being consciously engaged with my food and it's good to have some more depth on the topic, beyond the usual organic vs conventional agriculture.

I agree about your fab sock choices and your supposed "dirge":)!! Now, has that picture anything to do with the story of the pitcher not having enough water, so gets filled with pebbles, bringing the water closer to the top? Or did I dream that story? That's always a possibility.

Our main library here is currently without air conditioning and has been for a week in this 90 degree inferno wave. They have closed several times because of the heat.
